Background of Mercy Education Campus
Mercy Lanka previously known as Al Rahma Project is a local NGO that had been working since 1997 in social welfare activities especially caring orphans by providing monthly financial assistance to their mothers/guardians. The aim of financial contribution to the families of orphans was to uplift their living standards in educational and social perspectives under the direct care of their mothers/guardians. However, the expected results of this project could not be fully achieved due to various reasons among which ignorance and negligence of mothers/guardians and unfavorable environment where they lived in were notable.
Taking in to the consideration of the above fact, in 2007, the management of Mercy Lanka decided to establish an educational institute with residential facilities and bring all sponsored orphans to this institute in order to provide them quality education in a child friendly environment so that they will be empowered to stand on their own feet.
Having completed all construction work of the proposed educational institute, which was named as MERCY EDUCATION COMPLEX (MEC), commenced its academic activities in 2010 as a separate entity with 185 students and 65 academic and non-academic staff from grade 1 to 4. After dedicated services of all members of staff with a visionary journey the MERCY EDUCATION COMPLEX has been upgraded to MERCY EDUCATION CAMPUS (MEC) in 2018 and now functioning with 952 students from pre-grade to G.C.E. Advanced Level and 162 academic and non-academic staff.
